are you interested in performance-enhancing or recreational drugs or both?
here's a few names off the top of my head to start with. i suggest that to find lengths of ban, substances taken, etc you look up their wikipedia article
Football:
Rio Ferdinand (for missing drugs test)
Athletics:
Katrin Krabbe
CJ Hunter
Justin Gatlin
Ben Johnson
Christine Ohuruogu
Tennis:
Petr Korda
Greg Rusedski (was cleared, but the workings of the case is still of interest for kids learning...and it's a familiar name)
Mariano Puerta
see http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/3381811 .stm
Cricket:
Shane Warne
Shoaib Akhtar
Mohammad Asif
Ed Giddins (recreational)
Graeme Wagg (recreational)
WWE
Do they actually do drug tests? Surely they'd all be banned?! It's not even a sport and please don't teach kids that it is!
Skiing
Alain Baxter
Snooker
Ronnie O'Sullivan (recreational)
Neal Foulds
should keep you going for a while...

Quite a few of the WWE wrestlers have been banned for doing steriods, pot etc in recent years, some for a few months, some for longer
Rob Van Dam
Chris Masters
Joey Mercury
are 3 recentish ones the 1st for pot, the other 2 for steroid abuse - All 3 are back working now

Keeping that list up to date must keep someone busy!
The cycling and athletics sections would probably show up most culprits.
Remember though Joey, that some sports have a more severe testing regime than others, including out of competition testing at home, and they may 'catch' more people than other sports.
Darts is not a problem sport at the moment!!
