Andy Murray - will he ever be a great?

Fri 03/11/06 07:08

Watching coach Brad Gilbert's expressions as Andy Murray slumped to yet another early defeat last night suggests to me they may not have a big future together. Gilbert looks as frustrated as Murray's fans that the petulant young Scot, whose huffing and puffing about things that don't go his way is reminiscent of Harry Enfield's teenager Kevin, doesn't seem committed enough to become a tennis great. Give him time, you may say, but Murray is already older than so many big stars who've got Grand Slam titles under their belts. If only Gilbert could shape Murray into the manly winner that his previous client Agassi was. England soccer fans have called for the WAGS to now be left behind on foreign campaigns. I propose Murray's mum be banned from attending all his matches. Andy needs to turn from mummy's boy to macho victor if he's to make it to the very top. What do you think?

Murray seems to be lacking the physique and stamina to last through a whole tournament.(compare his gangly build with that of Rafal Nadal who is only slightly older). He has beaten some top players only to lose to a lesser player. I would have thought that less competitve tennis and more work on his body strength wouldn't go amiss, in the next year.

Though I am a Scot too, and would love to have a Scottish tennis champion I think that Andy Murray has a lot of growing-up to do.

My son played with Andy Murray as a junior, and he was a spoilt brat then, Judy used to walk off, she just left him to it - he was very unpopular with the other players and parents alike. I think it is disgusting the way he treated Petchey, who left a well paid job to be his coach, and then Murray dumped him. And to think the LTA are paying for Brad GIlbert, doesnt Murray earn enough to pay for it himself - and to top it all, he hates the British, but is happy to take British money!!!!!
