Football teams definately choose their players purely on the basis of ability, the modern game is too competitive, cutthroat, and lucrative for any team to carry players who are not good enough.

Also you cannot draw any comparison between football and the police. In football it makes no difference what race the players are as long as they perform on the pitch. Where as the police have to reflect the communities they serve in order to carry out their work effectively.

I think Fingerprint has answered the Q very well indeed.
The same applies to black actors/actresses. How many times have you seen a black actor or actress on TV who has quite obviously been chosen as a 'token' black character and has no talent whatsoever, or are a blatant stereotype? the soap operas are the main culprits with this...
I cannot see how this can apply to sport.

so its ok then if i need the police for any reason to insist on a white caucasian officer attending?

The modern game now uses the player that has the capability to run all game long from box to box. That seems to fit the current crop of African players and indeed the black players in the premiership. They are no more skillful than the others , they just seem to be faster and a whole lot fitter.

Only one i know of, and he is currently refereeing in the Championship . There is another 4th official though who looks like Monty Panesars dad.

are you saying that if i call the police for whatever reason and an officer of an ethnic minority turns up i can expect to be dealt with less effectively?
selection to be fair and effective must surely be based on ability only,
i have no problem with that, hence my opener about footballers (a tad devils advocate you notice)
why should imbalance be tolerated, even encouraged in one direction i.e. pro the minority ?

helpmetoo - I understand what you are saying here but I disagree.
Let me assume you are white. You are planted in the mainstream of British society and culture so a police officer of any background is going to understand your needs.
It's a completely different kettle of fish in minoritiy communities, they need to see themseves represented in the police force, and they need police officers who have an ingrained understading of the issues they are facing.

OK I don't know much about football but isn't it odd that there are so many black footballers but so few black referees? Managers too ( I'm guessing here correct me if I'm wrong )

I can't see how you can positively discriminate in football though. It's a game. You want to win so you pick the best players.

What are the demographics, about 5% of the population are non white? So are you claiming that football teams with all the money riding on wining, rather than picking the best players have deliberately gone ahead and over employed Black or Ethnic Minority players. Wow, what a statement, has you any evidence to support this. If you have that would be the scandal of the century.
