Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder believed his Inter Milan side deserved to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

A late Samuel Eto'o strike gave the Italian side a 3-1 win on aggregate as Chelsea produced a lacklustre performance, and Dutch playmaker Sneijder thought his side were well worth their win.

Sneijder said: "Our game plan was to attack and score, and we did that.
"It was hard work but we deserved to win."

The first half saw Inter on the back foot, but they created several chances before the Eto'o winner, and Sneijder was always confident his side would create the necessary opportunities.

"They did well first half but we dominated the game and there wasn't much danger" he said.

"We knew the chances would come, and although it took time, they came eventually and the win was fully deserved."

Inter's win means that Italy will not lose one of the Champions League places for future seasons, and Sneijder thinks the win was important for the whole of Italian football.

"The result is important as Chelsea are a dangerous team, but this is also an important step for Italian football.

"But we are not finished yet, and if we can play like today, we have a chance of going all the way to the final."
