Welsh presenter Alex Jones confirmed as new One Show host

Welsh presenter Alex Jones confirmed as new One Show host Welsh broadcaster Alex Jones has been announced as the new permanent co-host of BBC1's The One Show.

Jones, 32, has over ten years' experience in Welsh television, presenting many Welsh-language programmes and children's shows, but is relatively unknown outside Wales.

She will join new host Jason Manford and Friday evening presenter Chris Evans on The One Show from August 16th.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to bits to be joining The One Show," said Jones. "I watch the show at home every night on my sofa and can't believe I'm now swapping it for the One Show sofa!

"It is the break I have only ever dreamed of and can't believe I'm getting to work with Jason Manford, who I think is just fantastic - it truly is the icing on the cake."

BBC daytime controller Liam Keelan described Jones' screen test with Manford as "outstanding", while One Show editor Sandy Smith predicted Jones would be swiftly be a firm favourite among audiences.

"Alex is warm, funny and very experienced despite being almost unknown outside Wales," Smith said. "It feels right for many reasons to be developing someone new at this time and I hope One Show viewers enjoy seeing her relationship with Jason develop on screen and take her to their heart."

The hosting changes on The One Show come after former hosts Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley left the BBC separately to take new jobs with ITV1, with the pair to co-host new breakfast show Daybreak.ADNFCR-8000010-ID-19906601-ADNFCR
