England bowler Ryan Sidebottom has been ruled out of the remainder of the one-day international series against India after further scans on his troublesome back and side injuries.Sidebottom has been plagued by fitness issues since the end of the English summer. He initially sat out the fourth Test against South Africa, as well as the one-day series, with a side injury. He then picked up an Achilles injury during a two-over spell playing in the Stanford series in Antigua. But it is his back that has been causing him problems throughout the last three months. England had hoped that the Nottinghamshire bowler would be able to compete in the current one-day series against India, but he has showed little sign of recovery since the team arrived over two weeks ago. And after more detailed scan results were returned by a clinic today, it has emerged that Sidebottom will not play any further part on the subcontinent in the one-day internationals. He may still return for the Test series, although this will depend on additional reports from the medical staff in December. The news means England head coach Peter Moores may look to promote someone from the performance programme squad, with players such as Tim Bresnan, Sajid Mahmood and Liam Plunkett all possible replacements for the final four limited-overs matches. © Adfero Ltd
