By Mark FordhamMichael Owen has said he regrets staying at Manchester United last season before his release earlier this summer. The striker was urged to stay on for another season by manager Sir Alex Ferguson but he only made four first-team appearances throughout the 2011-12 season. Stoke City snapped up the 32-year-old striker on a free transfer at the end of last month and he hopes he can score plenty of goals for his new club. The striker scored 17 goals in 52 games for Manchester United but he admitted that in hindsight, the extra year at United was a bit of a waste for him as he was left frustrated for much of the season. "When the manager says 'you have a big role to play and we want you to stay for another year', it was great to hear that from someone like Sir Alex Ferguson," he continued.
