Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has expressed pride that Liverpool managed to beat "a good Everton side" at Anfield. His side's 1-0 victory was particularly impressive considering that Liverpool played with ten men for over an hour of the action as Sotiros Kyrgiakos was sent off after 34 minutes. Everton's Stephen Pienaar also saw red in injury time as the Toffees desperately tried to cancel out Dirk Kuyt's 55th minute goal. Gerrard said: "Derbies are all about passion, commitment and fight, and we've beaten a good Everton side with ten men, so we should be proud and enjoy this." Referring to the competitive nature of the tackling, the England man added: "I don't think the challenges crossed the line - we're not complaining and I don't think Everton will either. "Like I say, this is what derbies are about."
