By Mark FordhamFabio Capello has resigned as England manager just four months before the start of the European Championships as the John Terry racism row rumbles on. The Italian was called into FA headquarters for a meeting with chairman David Bernstein yesterday (February 8th) after he had openly criticised his bosses for stripping the Chelsea player of England captaincy. Following talks between the two, Capello and the FA confirmed the Italian's departure from the team with immediate effect. "We have accepted Fabio's resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future," chairman Bernstein was quoted as saying about the situation. This move from Capello leaves the FA with a decision to make over his successor, but the favourite remains Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp, who yesterday was cleared of all charges relating to tax evasion.
