James DeGale will continue his professional boxing education this summer with a trip to the USA where he will train with Floyd Mayweather. The Olympic gold medal winner turned pro last year and is unbeaten in his two fights so far. However, his trainer Jim McDonnell wants the Briton to get experience in the ring against some of the world's best fighters. After a possible link up with Mayweather, DeGale could also make stops at the training camps of former world champions Ronald 'Winky' Wright and Jermaine Taylor. DeGale said he is excited by the prospect of sparring against Mayweather. "We've got a few options, including training with Mayweather in Vegas. I'll get good quality sparring and that's what I need," said DeGale. "To be in the gym with Floyd will be unbelievable. Floyd is one of my favourite fighters ever. "He's a boxer who can dig deep when he needs to. Mayweather is a proper showman - I love his attitude. He has all the skills." Mayweather is in the midst of coming out of retirement, for a third time, to face Juan Manuel Marquez for a fight that will take place on September 19th. The winner of the Mayweather Marquez bout could then face Manny Pacquiao in a pound-for-pound showdown.
