Manchester United and Chelsea look set to lock horns in a bid to secure the signings of Newcastle duo Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye.
The pair are wanted by both clubs, with Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Di Matteo each said to be looking to strengthen their midfields, reports the Mail on Sunday.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew admitted after yesterday's (August 18th) opening day win against Tottenham that success in the current transfer window would be keeping his squad together.
"We are on our guard in case some really big bid comes in and we need to react because if someone goes out, another player will come in," he stated.
It seems the greatest threats will be posed by the Red Devils and the Blues, with multi-million pound deals for both players in the offing.
Chelsea have already revamped their midfield this summer, with Oscar and Eden Hazard among the big-money arrivals.
However, Sir Alex recently said his summer shopping is done after this week's acquisition of Robin van Persie.
