Result was good for rugby? Time for a rethink.

Thank God England didn't win or the nation would be turning out young circus performers who can kick it over the posts from the half way line and not thinking how beautiful the game can be . OK, SA beat England in a dour kicking game but they have shown that they are worthy champions in all departments. Stats: tries scored in the knock out stages (including teams eliminated in quarters) SA 9, Arg 2, France2, Fiji 2, NZ 2, Aus 1, Sco 1, Eng 1 (and that was a freak). England teams need to score a few more tries if they want to be called the greatest !

Agreed. The great Wilko was outplayed at his own kicking by Percy Montgomery and before all the whingeing Poms moan about a disallowed try - well the replays I saw clearly showed a foot on the touchline a split second before the ball was grounded. The better team won.

When all is said and done, South Africa deserved to lift the Cup having been undefeated at the championship and having beaten England TWICE in the competition. No excuses.

I cant follow all the rules and was thinking of posting a question for someone to give me some bullet points. 3 points for a penalty right in front of goal seems harsh when some one happens to put their hand in front of the ball in a ruck (which we cannot see anyway, even on tv. The try, which can be seen clearly on tv, looked like a try to me. What replay was the video judge looking at?

ps That tap it and run gane they play up north is nothing near as exiting as RU, likwise American footbal which is as boring as Hell.

Funny you should say that or do you think young Stayn is a circus performer??The match[which is what it was]turned out to be a dour encounter between hard men going all out to win ,however that came about.Bad for rugby if England were to have won-I dont think so!You sound like a New Zealander or an Aussie[I'm Half Kiwi so I know how antipodeans feel about England-the mother country-yea right!] NZ V SA would have been a different game but that just shows how good SA are. They can play pretty or hard.Inspite of ''the try that wasn't'' and a couple of kickable penalties England might have been given for accidental offside,South Africa wre worthy winners of the Event.Watch them in next years Tri Nations!

Not sure how SA can consider themselves "true" world champions, having beaten neither Australia, New Zealand or France en route to the trophy. Yes they were the better team on the night, and yes they perfected England's art of "winning ugly"

Bring 'em on in 2011!!
