Hi ya Mamma.

Well in answer to the first part of the question.

Australia

I would love England to win but feel that we've struggled not only in this WC but for the last couple of years, i cannot make a case for England winning, yes we have players who have been around the block a few times, worn the T-Shirt etc etc, but i feel this will not be enough to beat the aussies.

The aussies are beatable, but not this afternoon i'm afraid.

Hi Laurence2 , I am going to be hoping Australia win , they have won so far and it would be a shame to see them go out of the running today . I have lived a long time over there and lean towards them in most sports. My son is the only Australian in his Airforce base and is watching it in his room with his mates instead of going to the big screening on the base ....wise choice I would say ..lol...smile x

Hi bigmamma ... I have to say that I echo the sentiments expressed by laurence2, but would just like to ask you as somebody living in Australia ... do most Australians really hate the English as has been reported regularly in the press in recent weeks?

Hello sarumite , I am back in Britain now btw but , when Ilived over there I was well accepted , they tend to jibe a bit with the Pommie jokes until they get to know you . However I found the country very embracing . smile

Well I'd love England to win but my head agrees with Laurence, I think the Aussies have the edge on us. If we play well and make no errors and take points when we can then an England win is not impossible but with my logical head on I'd be laying England + 12

England played well , the best I have seen in a while , I was disappointed in the performance and gusto.or lack of it, of the Australian team . Mistakes were made and opportunities missed . The best team won today . smile

What a cracker, what an absolute cracker. Great game, good advert for hard, forward rugby. Sheridan rightfully M-O-T-M. And who do we get in the semis? Who do you want, France or NZ? And can we win that?

I'll put my hands up gladly and say i got the wrong prediction.

Sod the expansive game, i love it when we go toe to toe up front, the forwards were fantastic, but they all played there part.

Who thinks that the physical battles we had Tonga & Samoa held England in good stead for the battle ahead.

I don't know if the aussies did'nt come out of the trap etc, but the look on there faces at the end suggested that they we're shocked by Englands performance.

Pure power England we're in the scrum, i've NEVER seen an aussie pack brought to its knees in the scrum like that.

Brilliant

My analysis as a football fan who knows nothing about rugby but enjoyed the game nonetheless:

For 80 minutes the players pushed eachother about for the ball. An occassional penalty kick was given for unknown reasons. Jonny Wilkinson scored 4 penalties over a massive goal with no keeper. One try was scored by Australia. The players each had names for their different positions even though they were often all bundled together in the middle of the pitch in so-called 'scrums'. Some of the fans wore funny hats. England had a black player called 'Sackey'. I was nervous as it seemed important for England to win though I'm not sure why. England won by 12-10. Horray!
