Back in 1973/74/75 i worked in a record shop in Ormskirk and my boss had a half share in a horse called Brave Loot, stabled at the McCain outfit in Ainsdale, we used to go down and feed the horses polo mints, Red Rum was always there and so was a horse called Prehistoric who doted on Red Rum. He had a very big head hence his name.

While McCain was working as a used car salesman in Southport, he bought Red Rum. He applied for a training permit in 1953 and began training horses in 1962, using small stables behind the showroom. He bought a horse for 6000 guineas, which later turned out to be suffering from a bone debilitating disease. This horse would turn out to be Red Rum.
