Brigadier Gerrard

Does anyone know whether any descendents of the peerless Brigadier Gerrard are racing today? I saw a Captain Gerrard the other day but am unable to trace his pedigree far enough back. Thanks for your time.

Though a great racehorse Brigadier Gerard wasn't a noted stallion at stud.
The only exception was his offspring Light Cavalry who won the 1980 St.Leger.
Captain Gerrard is not immediately related to the Brigadier, his pedigree along with every other horse can be found here.

Thanks mightyWBA. I knew that he wasn't very successful at stud but I was hoping to hear of some distantly related horse carrying his genes.

Disappointing as a sire but not surprising given his very ordinary pedigree (the Hislop's sent their non-winning mare La Paiva to Queens Hussar mainly because he was cheap and just down the road).

Once retired to Stud he was badly managed by the Hislops who insisted on charging very high (for then) covering fees and wouldn't give reductions. In his later year Jean Hislop refused to nominate him to the fledgling European Breeders' Fund (which she was very anti) and this finished him off as it made him even less commercial than he'd been before.

I don't know if Light Cavalry ever went to Stud - will have to check. If the Brigadier's name lives on in pedigrees it is probably through one of his daughters.

Thanks Butty. I suppose the lesson is that genius is not always inherited especially in the world of sport.

Thanks MightyWBA. Raven's Pass has been one of my favourite horses this season so it is a real thrill to hear that he is related to the great Brigadier.
