Are you referring to a particular golf club or golf clubs in general? I can only speak for our club which is a public course with a membership and there are mens matches, ladies matches and mixed matches played against other local clubs. There is no shortgage of competitors and as far as I know, many clubs are in the same position.

I know of several clubs who have had to abandon some competitions in the calender due to the lack of female players, Its very frustrating

I am the secretary of a golf club. We have no lady members. Ladies are not interested in playing at our course. Probably because we aren't a snotty lot of gits, like most clubs. And, more likely, because our course is quite hilly. Which ladies don't like, apparrently.

You see, ladies like to feel quite smug about their club. It's a quiet retreat. Civilised, but paradoxically isolated, or insulated from reality. And a place where the "clique" can slag other lady members off, because of their clothes, or the size of their 4rse, or the latest gentleman member that they're sh4gging. So why aren't there enough women playing golf in club fixtures? Maybe they've seen the light. Don't go and you won't get slagged off. But knowing golf clubs, don't go, and you'll get slagged off because they'll think you're not there because you're in bed with the Captain. Ooo! Nice firm bunkers and rounded greens! Make sure you get a firm grip! Fore!!!!!!!!!!!
