Calllaway Big Bertha is reasonable to some and Dunlop to others, what's your budget, has he played before

Get yourself down to somewhere like American Golf Discount,if there is a branch near where you live. There are other similar places. They'll be able to help you out.

Don't buy him any clubs without him being there, he should probably be measured for them and possibly has some in mind -

Just thought, you could suprise him with some lessons off a decent club pro - anything to help his game should go down well

It depends how much you want to spend. A decent set of irons will cost somewhere between £300 to £400. There are cheaper ones. Lots of them. But if he is a good player, he'll be looking in that price bracket I should think. If that is the amount you had in mind, you could get him a gift voucher to that value and let him choose his own. If he doesn't spend it all on the clubs, he could use the balance for other equipment. But choosing golf clubs is very much an individual thing and should be left to him. So I would suggest buying a voucher from somewhere like American Golf or Direct Golf. But if you buy from Direct Golf, they only let you use it in the shop where you bought it, so check for these things.

I would suggest he goes to a Golfsmith franchisee who will custon fit a set of clubs for him and you pay for them. They are all over the World and your local man (wherever you are located) can be found on the Internet. Very reasonable prices for quality equipment. Just search for Golfsmith, they make 'Snake Eyes' clubs among others.

Cobra and Callaway Big Bertha are very nice in my opinion.
