If 120 enter, you have 60 pairs so:

Round 1 30 matches
Round 2 15 matches
Round 3 7 matches, and one team has a bye into the next round
Round 4 4 matches (quarter-finals)
Round 5 2 matches (semi-finals)
Round 6 1 match (The Final)
Making 59 games in total

I've never heard of any birds being used for something OVER Par. An Eagle is two under, and an Albatross is three under.

The answer you are looking for regarding the double bogey is BUZZARD. See here:

http://www.scottishgolfhistory.net/bogey_par.htm (under double and triple bogeys).

I've been associated with Golf virtually all my life. I'm now a golf club secretary, but I've never heard the term buzzard before. It's a new one on me!

usually knockouts have entries in 2,4,8,16 etc (ie 2 to power of x) therefore number of matches to be played is always 1 less than number of original entrants (there can only ever be one winner)

reason for 2 power of x is never a bye as always a winner / loser at each match and if 120 some would have an unfair advantage of a bye in the next round (guaranteed progression)

as for birds, always albatross (-3) or double eagle if a yank, eagle (-2), birdie (-1) .... never heard of birds for + par
