Rules and etiquette

I know that it is against the rules for a player to allow his partner or caddie to position himself on or close to an extension of the line of play or the line of putt (Rule 14-2). But is it also against the rules for your opponent to position himself on or close to an extension of the line of play so that he can see the way that a putt breaks? I know there's nothing to stop anyone studying the line the ball takes after it has been hit but I find it very annoying when my opponents deliberately position themselves exactly behind - or in front of - my line when I am about to play.

there is no rule, but tell them to move, its good manners to not stand anywhere near you line until the ball is moving.

I believe there is a rule to prevent you standing looking behind the line of the putt whilst your opponent or fellow competitor is putting but the the line of the putt does not extend beyond the hole. Therefore although it is not good manners to do so, it is not illegal to stand behind the hole looking down the line towards the player.
