Golf Buggy Accident

Sat 01/09/07 10:27

A friend of mine recently hit a car with a golf buggy, causing a lot of damage. Who is liable to pay for the damage and what if any insurance should he use?

It depends on the circumstances and the location. Was it at a golf club? Is he a member? If he is a member, the club may have a comprehensive policy that covers this. He should check with the secretary. Does he have his own personal golf insurance? If so, he should check with the insurance company to see if he is covered for accidents.

Thank you for the advice. No he doesn't have personal golf insurance. It was at a golf club where he is a member. He asked at the clubhouse and they said he was liable. He didn't sign a disclaimer form when he hired the buggy. Does this make any difference? They said this has never happened before, which I find quite unlikely. Can anyone please help. He is trying to claim through his home contents insurance.

There is another way of looking at this. Technically, he was driving another vehicle with the owners' permission. If he has fully comprehensive insurance, it might be worth trying to sort the claim out this way. If he is able to proceed that way, he may still have to pay for any damage to the golf buggy.
