oldest league player

I was recently asked who is the oldest player inleague or prem.history.My thought went to Stan Matthews or Bob Hardisty but was told that the owner of Doncaster Rovers once went on as a sub for 2 minutes just to get the record. Can this record stand as genuine?

I dont know about the owner of Doncaster - but officially it is Neil McBain (then manager of New Brighton) who was 52 years and 4 months old when he kept goal in an emergency for New Brighton away at Hartlepool 15 March 1947 - New Brighton Lost 3-0, (Division 3 North) and the attendance was 5874.

I'd need to double check but I'm pretty sure the Doncaster Rovers owner did that when they were in the Conference and had already clinched the league title so they weren't a "league" team at the time.
