Can't find anything to prove it, but I'm pretty certain that if you're banned it applies to all kinds of football

Depends on the level of football, who imposed the suspension and where the reserve team play.
In Scotland for instance until recently a player suspended from SFL football was entitled to play for the reserve team if it played in another league set up such as Southern Counties or East of Scotland League. That has now been stopped but it may exist elsewhere.
I know if you are sent off in first team football you have to serve the suspension in first team football, you can't serve it in a reserve fixture. The reverse is not true though. If you are sent off in the reserves (again in Scotland, I'm not sure England is the same) then you also miss first team football in serving the suspension.

well, its tricky, because if you get sent off in the prem, you can play in the champions league, which is crazy, but yes if you get sent off in the league you cant play in the reserves.
