I thought you were jesting Mighty, until I googled it.
It seems it was a Coca Cola Cup 1st leg. What happened in the return match?
I don't suppose the 5 we scored on December 30th 1978 count do they?

I was hoping our 5 would be the answer panic, then I remembered the mighty York!
They lost the second leg 3-1 but went through on aggregate.

I Travelled to Old Trafford when Bristol City had their one and only Glory Year, and we were all amazed as our striker Kevin Mabbutt went on to score a hat trick, i believe he is only 1 of two players to achieve this feat at M U. We then returned to mediocrity, but it was a wonderful memory. I believe it was in 1975. Happy Days
