Which road bike to buy?

Thurs 22/05/08 08:18

Can anyone help me in choosing my bicycle? I am planning on riding on the streets mostly and once in a while go off-road. Let's just say, off-road will be very less. I found some road bikes here and I have my eyes on the 2007 Kona Zing Deluxe. Is this a good model to go for considering that I am a beginner? If not, can anyone recommend any other model? And what's the deal about the frame size?

The models on that page are mostly dedicated road bikes (drop handlebars, v.skinny tyres etc) This will restrict you to road use only and taking it off road would be a no-no.

Why not go for one of the hybrid style bikes that have upright handlebars, more substantial wheels and frame? This will give you comfort on and off the road. The tyres are usually designed to offer low resistance on the road but also give some grip off-road.

Thanks for the reply. I had the hybrid models in mind too. Only thing is the cost. Not sure if they will fit into my budget which is below 1200 pounds.

I have had two Trek bikes in the last ten years and I would highly recommend them. Here is a link.

Make sure you get road tyres and not the chunky ones on most mountain bikes
